  • nominees must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (S.C. 2001, c. 27) and reside permanently in Québec. In certain circumstances, however, the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Exceptional Merit may be awarded to a person residing outside Québec;

The Lieutenant Governor reserves the right to refuse any nomination that does not meet the eligibility criteria, or for any other motive.

For more information, we invite you to consult the criteria specific to each category of medal.

The nomination period begins on November 1st of each year and lasts three months. The deadline for submitting nomination forms is February 1st of each year, and only electronic forms are accepted.

The form is no longer accessible after the deadline, to allow sufficient time for nominations to be processed. No extension will be granted for the submission of nomination forms, for any reason.

Award Ceremonies

The medal will be presented to the recipients at ceremonies presided over by the Lieutenant Governor.

On receipt of an official letter of invitation from the Lieutenant Governor's Chief of Staff and Private Secretary, each recipient must attend in person to the ceremony to which they have been invited in order to receive the medal. Only deceased recipients can be represented by someone else.
