Lieutenant Governor’s Medal

The Lieutenant Governor’s Medal recognizes the voluntary involvement, determination and dedication of Quebecers who make or have made a difference in their community or Québec nation. There are three categories of medals:

Description of the Medal

The obverse features the Québec coat of arms in the centre, with the name and rank of the current Lieutenant Governor around the rim.

The reverse shows the Québec flag.

Youth category

Senior category

Exceptional merit category

General Criteria

These are the four main eligibility criteria for this medal:

  • nominees must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (S.C. 2001, c. 27) and reside permanently in Québec. In certain circumstances, however, the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for Exceptional Merit may be awarded to a person residing outside Québec;
  • the nomination must be made by a third party, not by the nominee;
  • only one medal in each category may be awarded to the same person during his or her lifetime;
  • only nominations for living people can be accepted. However, the nomination remains eligible if the death occurs after the nomination has been submitted.

The Lieutenant Governor reserves the right to refuse any nomination that does not meet the eligibility criteria, or for any other motive.

Deadline

The nomination period begins on November 1st of each year and lasts three months. The deadline for submitting nomination forms is February 1st of each year, and only electronic forms are accepted.

The form is no longer accessible after the deadline, to allow sufficient time for nominations to be processed. No extension will be granted for the submission of nomination forms, for any reason.

Award Ceremonies

The medal will be presented to the recipients at ceremonies presided over by the Lieutenant Governor.

On receipt of an official letter of invitation from the Lieutenant Governor's Chief of Staff and Private Secretary, each recipient must attend in person to the ceremony to which they have been invited in order to receive the medal. Only deceased recipients can be represented by someone else.

There are no financial rewards associated with the Lieutenant Governor's Honours Program.

How to obtain free souvenir photos

By visiting the website then to access the photographs :

  • please select the year of your event to locate your ceremony and view the photographs;
  • once you've chosen a photo, you can save it by clicking on the arrow at the bottom right of the photo, then click on « Ouvrir » (Open) or « Enregistrer sous… » (Save as) in the directory of your choice.

Please note that it can take from 3 to 21 days for photographs taken during the ceremony to be processed and uploaded.
