The men and women who volunteer to accompany the Lieutenant Governor in the exercise of his official duties are known as “honorary aides-de-camp.” This tradition has existed since Confederation. Aides-de-camp also work with the Governor General, the Lieutenant Governors of the other provinces and the Commissioners of the Territories.
These volunteer aides-de-camp not only attend official events but also participate in preparations for them, supporting the organizers who receive the Lieutenant Governor.
The volunteer aides-de-camp may be officers of military forces, police forces, fire protection services, ambulances services or the St. John Ambulance Brigade or civilians.
