It was an honor to attend the Mi’gmaw Treaty Day celebrations yesterday at the residence of the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia in Halifax.
The ceremonies, held under the theme of alliances, were marked by the presence of Grand Chief Sylliboy and Grand Keptin Denny of the Sante’ Mawio’ mi Grand Council, who came to demonstrate their commitment.
This unifying event highlighted the importance of treaties, which aim to establish peaceful and meaningful relationships between the Mi’gmaw and the Crown.
It also held historical significance, bringing together four Lieutenant Governors from different provinces, including those from New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, to collectively underscore the importance of alliances with the Mi’gmaw.
Additionally, several Mi’gmaw communities from the seven districts were present, further strengthening the impact and significance of this exceptional moment.
