I would like to take a moment to acknowledge the graduation of the 2nd cohort of the Guardians of the Territory program at Laval University, a new program that recognizes Indigenous ancestral knowledge, supports self-determination initiatives, and aims to empower Indigenous people in creating protected and conservation areas.
I had the privilege of attending the graduation ceremony of the 2nd cohort last Friday, on National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Congratulations to the graduates!
I especially want to commend how this program came into being: through co-creation and collaboration, with co-teaching as its guiding principle.
Such a program not only builds bridges to indigenize the university institution by recognizing Indigenous ancestral knowledge, but it also makes it more accessible by opening its doors with certified training programs.
Congratulations to all the participants and the team behind this magnificent reconciliation project!
